Eight Chinese Cities Identified as Rising Urban Stars
In a report released by Jones Lang LaSalle on May 29,
a leading commercial real estate broker and real estate
investment adviser, the company identified eight Chinese
cities as rising urban stars. The report, which identified
24 cities globally, is available from the Jones Lang LaSalle
website.
Of the eight Chinese cities, Dalian and Suzhou were cited
for their rising technology capabilities, while Beijing,
Shanghai, Guangzhou/Shenzhen, Chongqing and Xian were
identified as rising mega cities. The report said that
this century will be the "Asian Century" and
identified three Indian cities (Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai)
as well.
Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou/Shenzhen are, according
to the report, among the most dynamic city regions in
the world, and are now commercial hubs. All three places
have been favored by the government for investment, and
there is a certain amount of office over-supply. But this
situation should improve in the near future.
Dalian in north China, and Suzhou, near Shanghai, benefit
from technology institutes, and are developing into technology
clusters. Suzhou, in particular, has benefited from significant
electronics investment in Taiwan.
Chongqing and Xian were the only rising urban stars which
are in inland China. Beginning in 2000, the Chinese government
has sought to develop western (inland) China, since most
investment has been concentrated along the eastern coastal
region of China.
