Multinational makers operating in the China market are changing their strategies for the post-SARS period. Most companies are introducing new products in order to quickly establish market share.

GlaxoSmithKline has changed its vaccine production and sales plans, and has decided to step up production of vaccines in China. Chinese government officials, on the local and central government levels, are now adjusting their public health policies to focus more on disease prevention. This will increase the opportunities for sales of vaccines in China.

Amway China has been another beneficiary of this new attitude. Sales of Amway's health food and disinfectants in China have skyrocketed, and in many places, there are shortages of products. Amway is stepping up production to relieve these shortages. Amway is also moving many production facilities from outside China to China.

Because SARS has had an effect on face to face sales, Amway has asked its China sales staff to contact buyers by phone, and also to focus on repeat sales to previous buyers.
