FedEx has just begun new direct flights from Shenzhen in Guangdong province to Anchorage, Alaska. The flights are once a week, flying on Fridays, but may be increased to meet the needs of its customers. This is the company's second direct route to the US from China, following Shanghai.

Normally, exporters in Guangdong ship their products to the US out of Hong Kong, but that is often tedious and time consuming because of congestion and customs clearance between Guangdong and Hong Kong. The new route from Shenzhen's Baoan airport removes that congestion problem, and allows shippers from Shenzhen 1 1/2 hours more time before the shipping deadline to get their products to the FedEx office.

FedEx's Asia Pacific shipping center is based in Taiwan's Chiang Kai-shek International Airport. This means that most shipping to and from Asia is delivered to CKS airport, and then shipped from feeder flights in and out. However, deliveries directly to and from China are affected because Taiwan does not yet allow direct flights to and from China. For this, FedEx has a secondary center at Subic Bay in the Philippines, using the old US Air Force facilities.
